Change Your Perspective

Don't you hate it when your cat teaches you the exact lesson you need to learn? I mean, they're a cat. Their best advice usually runs along the line of using their tongue in place of a washcloth. Yes, going to pass on that! Plus, I'm just not that limber.

Here's what happened. I bought my cat a cute little lavender kitty bed. The picture on Amazon showed a lovely tabby enjoying the sumptuous surroundings of the "ultra plush faux fur dome." I just knew my kitty needed to have this. Thanks to Prime, it magically appeared on my doorstep two days later. It was greeted by me with excitement, and by the cat, well, the word ennui comes to mind.

Total lack of excitement. Boredom.

What the heck??? Little Tabby loves it.

I spent a couple of days tossing her kitty treats into the bed, which she would eagerly go fetch. I guess kitty treats trump ennui. But she still wouldn't sit in the bed. We played this game for about a week.

I was looking at the bed one day and thought, "Maybe I should turn it in a different direction. Instead of being tall, maybe lay the tall side on the ground?" I know, I need a hobby. Who has time for this? But I gave it a go.

Imagine my surprise when I walked by a few minutes later to see none other than the Queen of Sheba lying in the kitty bed. (Her name is really Neko, but she acts like the Queen herself.) I guess she was looking at the bed with a fresh set of eyes, from a new perspective. By golly, I think she is on to something!

Where in my life can I look at something from a new perspective? Have I been looking at my life from the same old view for way too long? What would happen to my work if I looked at it with a fresh set of eyes? Am I struggling with obstacles in pursuing my purpose in life because I only see the problems and not the possibilities? That certainly goes toward my view of my teenager!

Thank you, kitty, for showing me that I only have to turn things slightly to get a fresh view of them, which in turn gives me new possibilities to pursue!

What in your life needs a new point of view? What would happen if you chose to look at things from a different perspective? Sometimes precisely what we need to see won't come into view until we change our perspective.
